The community is served by a volunteer fire department. The department has twenty three members and their chief who is the president of the North Dakota Association of Firemen. A main source of pride is our volunteer ambulance squad having nineteen crew members that are nationally certified EMT's and five first responders.

Powers Lake also has many active organizations that include: American Legion & Auxiliary, Civic Club, Community Club, Music Boosters, Saddle Club, & Quarterback Club.

NCC is the local telephone company and supplies T1 and DSL intenet access as well as local land-line and cell phone service.

MDU is the electrical company that supplies the city with electricial service.

During 2008 all water and sewer mains were replaced to improve the quality and stablity of the city's water supply. Current utility rates are: water - minimum charge $10, sewer - $7, and garbage pickup - $15.50.
